BEGIN:VCALENDAR PRODID:-//hacksw/handcal//NONSGML v1.0//EN METHOD:PUBLISH BEGIN:VEVENT DESCRIPTION:KMI?s goal is to provide stakeholders with a semantically integrated view of Eastern Range information?a Single Integrated Range Picture?by transforming distributed, heterogeneous information into semantically enriched knowledge that improves situation awareness and understanding. However, situational understanding differs depending on each stakeholder?s area of responsibility (AOR), background, experience, and problem-solving need.nThis year, we focus on the challenges of semantically representing and integrating different stakeholder points-of-view, or understandings of information, including operations requirements, systems and components, system status, problems, mission impacts and resolution actions. For example, a range engineer may focus on system problems, whereas a commander needs to understand mission requirements and problem impacts; each is working from an incomplete understanding of the other?s knowledge base and AOR, creating ?semantic gaps? in situation assessment. These semantic gaps can lead to situation misunderstandings if they are not properly filled, a process currently performed by knowledgeable staff translating ?engineering-speak? into ?commander-speak? in daily Situation Reports (SITREPs).nThis briefing will cover the following points:n
